LTK-designed railcarA digital revolution for Sydney Trains.

The Digital Systems Program will be delivered by Transport for NSW (TfNSW) to transform the Sydney Trains network from traditional signalling to European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 2 technology. Whereas Sydney Trains will ultimately become the asset owner in charge of the O&M. This transformation will happen in stages and it is part of the “More Trains More Service” program to increase the capacity across the rail network in order to meet the growth demand. There are several elements to this program, including:

  • Replacement of trackside signalling equipment with cab signals under the ETCS Level 2 standard
  • Implementation of Automatic Train Operation (ATO) to assist drivers in providing consistently reduced journey times
  • Introduction of a Traffic Management System (TMS) for effective network management and recovery from rail service disruptions

LTK Australia provided Systems Engineering, Governance and Assurance support, and operational readiness strategic review for the transformation.

Our engagement included business integration, impact assessments of the program as well as alignment of operational readiness requirements among all concerned departments and stakeholders. We also conducted strategic reviews of the proposed solutions and directions of TfNSW suppliers and contractors. A business readiness strategy was also developed, including program integration, acceptance, accreditations, whole of life consideration, people and change provisions, governance, and assurance.
