LTK Australia was engaged by Transport for New South Wales (TfNSW) to assist with the acquisition of new 100% low-floor light rail vehicles to support the expansion of the Sydney light rail system from Lilyfield to Dulwich Hill, a 6km double-track light rail electrification and LRV procurement project.
We also provided the operational interface between TfNSW, contract operator Transdev, LRV supplier CAF, and systems contractor John Holland.
In addition, we provided commissioning management for vehicles and infrastructure. Major construction elements undergoing commissioning included three traction power substations, 6km of double-track overhead wiring, automatic train protection system, SCADA system, nine stations with passenger information systems, maintenance facility and control centre upgrades, and a storage yard. Commissioning also included the integration of new and existing systems with existing and new LRVs. This was an accelerated delivery program, achieving operational start-up in March 2014.
Post-start-up, LTK supported decommissioning of the original 20-year-old LRVs and commissioning of the additional CAF LRVs as replacements.
