Metrolinx expanded its light rail service with several new lines in Toronto and its suburbs, and needed commercial and technical assistance to acquire up to 182 low-floor, light rail vehicles.
LTK assisted Metrolinx in the procurement process, which included commercial and technical support during carbuilder negotiations, evaluation of technical and price proposals, and the development of independent cost estimates.
LTK’s research and analyses led to Metrolinx’ decision to order a fleet of low-floor level light rail vehicles based on the Bombardier Flexity line. The vehicles, capable of operating in three-car units, also featured active suspension for level boarding, enhanced communications system, automatic passenger counting system, automatic train control, and regenerative braking.
LTK was also retained for follow-on program management, vehicle engineering and technical services, including design reviews, first article inspections, quality audits, in-plant production and test monitoring, oversight of final testing and commissioning of the completed cars, and assistance with warranty administration and technical support.
