LTK is proud to have assisted in the procurement, testing, and inspection of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority’s new Type 9 trolley, which was recently unveiled on the Green Line.
MBTA will start rolling out the first of 24 new cars in September. The updated trolleys are roomier, and feature sliding doors and automatic ramps to make it easier for people using wheelchairs and strollers to board.
The Type 9 cars include advanced communication and control systems, embedded automatic passenger counting systems, provisions for computer-aided dispatch and automatic vehicle location, and positive train control. The new cars are part of the Green Line Extension project, which will add 4.7 miles of track and seven new stations by the end of 2021.
WCVB-TV in Boston has a full report on the project, and a video tour of the trolley, which you can view here: MBTA New Type 9 Car.
