For more than 2,000 years, the Hohokam people occupied the land that would become Phoenix. The Hohokam created roughly 135 miles (217 km) of irrigation canals, making the desert land arable. Paths of these canals would later become used for the modern Arizona Canal, Central Arizona Project Canal, and the Hayden-Rhodes Aqueduct. Today, Phoenix is the 12th largest city in the US and those canals are still in use. Valley Metro Rail opened in December 2008 and serves Phoenix, Tempe and Mesa with light rail. LTK's office is located at CityScape, a high rise, mixed-use building in downtown, 2 blocks from the Jefferson/1st Avenue light rail station.
