Four LTK offices participated in “Girl Day” on Feb. 22 by hosting events that encouraged young women to consider careers in engineering.
Overall, a record number of seven LTK offices are participating.
The Feb. 22 programs, part of National Engineers Week, were held in Ambler, PA, Dallas, Los Angeles, and Washington, DC. Events in White River Junction, VT, and Brooklyn, NY, will be held during the first week of March. The Rochester, NY, office hosted two students on Feb. 15, a week early due to that school district’s February break.
Fourteen girls from five high schools attended the event in Ambler.
“Girl Day is a great way to connect with the local community around Ambler,” said Soo Oh, a Principal Engineer in Vehicle-Electrical who coordinated the program. “It was wonderful to see the curiosity in the students’ and teachers’ faces as they ‘shadowed’ our LTK engineers. The students came with many questions and left with a better idea of what engineering is about.”
At Ambler, engineers gave presentations on corrosion control, signals, traction power, and fare collection/vehicle modification.
Five high school students attended the event in Washington, D.C., while two attended the program in Dallas.
