Service Design and Scheduling

LTK’s Service Design and Scheduling capabilities include development of service plans and operating plans for both existing and proposed rail networks, as well as development of equipment cycles for a given operating plan.  For systems contemplating the procurement of additional vehicles, this work often supports the strategic fleet planning of our Transportation & Operations Planning practice.

Our capabilities include serving as an extension of staff as rail systems build new operating plans for service realignment, line extensions or simply to accommodate ridership growth.  LTK professionals can assist with current operational needs, special events planning and future operations planning.  For Alternatives Analyses, Major Investment Studies and Environmental Impact Statements, our Operations Analysts often work in cooperation with our Transportation & Operations Planning group to ensure that the Service Plans and Operating Plans are compliant with FTA Section 5309 (“New Starts”) requirements.

LTK’s Rail Operations professionals include veterans of light rail transit, commuter rail, intercity rail and freight rail operators.  We can tailor the level of service design detail to the analytical requirements – whether it is a single peak hour plan for a feasibility study or a detailed operating plan that includes full weekday, Saturday, Sunday and holiday service levels.
