The goal of rail transit design and construction is to produce fully integrated systems that meet clients' long-range needs while delivering maximum return on invested capital. Each component must be expertly designed and constructed, and all system components must function together as a smoothly operating whole.
Focused clearly on this goal, LTK's expert staff applies state-of-the-art technologies and extensive rail transit operating experience to the design of practical solutions compatible with operating regulations and requirements. The result: we help our clients manage risks, control costs, and deliver to their customers - the riding public - safe, reliable, customer-responsive rail systems.
In-depth services meet all needs
Our systems engineering services cover every phase
of rail system development, from preliminary planning through revenue operation. This includes system planning,
preliminary design, specification development, procurement strategy, bid evaluation, design review, quality
assurance, systems integration, acceptance testing and warranty administration. In addition, we specialize in
all of the systems that support rail operations and maintenance. These include:
Fare Collection
LTK provides planning services, develops design criteria, and prepares
specifications for fare collection equipment, its manufacture and installation. We also help transit operators
plan coordinated and effective fare structures.
Traction Electrification
Consulting on all or any phase of an electrification project, LTK
provides system planning and simulation, development of design criteria and specifications, hardware layout
and design, construction management and design review, and testing and warranty supervision. We have designed
overhead contact systems for high-speed passenger railroads, commuter rail and light rail transit systems;
third rail systems for rapid transit and people movers; and simple overhead wire systems for vintage trolley
operations.
Signals and Communications
With the emphasis on safety and
reliability, our full range of services includes planning and conceptual engineering, systems integration,
development of design criteria and specifications, construction management, design review, inspection, and
supervision of testing and warranties.
Maintenance Facilities
Focused on meeting vehicle
maintenance requirements and controlling costs, our work in developing maintenance methods and facilities
has been widely accepted by the industry.
Design Criteria
We assist in establishing design criteria early in the preliminary engineering phase of a project.
These criteria are updated and maintained during the life of the project and form the basis for the designs and
specifications of the various systems that are a part of the project.
